Studying at the Institute of Vocational Education, Work and Technology
Upon completion of the four-semester Master's programme "Master of Vocational Education / Lehramt an beruflichen Schulen" successful candidates are awarded the academic degree "Masters of Education".
The Master's programme builds on a Bachelor's degree course that is connected to the current subject. In this programme students are taught the vocational training skills, professional educational and technical skills as well as didactic skills required for working in vocational education or in vocational training.
Master of Vocational Education
Upon completion of the four-semester Master's programme "Master of Vocational Education / Lehramt an beruflichen Schulen" successful candidates are warded the academic degree "Masters of Education". The four-semester Master's programme builds on a Bachelor's degree course that is connected to the current subject. In this programme students are taught the vocational training skills, professional educational and technical skills as well as didactic skills required for working in vocational education or in vocational training. The Master's degree is recognized as a first state examination for teachers in Germany.
The entry requirement for the Master's programme is that prospective students hold a Bachelor's, Master's or German Diplom Degree gained at any university or university of applied sciences in one of the following subject areas: Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Information Technologies or Metal Engineering. In addition, prospective students must prove before commencing the course of study that they have completed 12 months of work experience or a vocational training.
Parts of the programme
Vocational Specialisations
In the Electrical Technology, Automotive Technology, Information Technology or Metal Technology modules (vocational subject), for which 18 CP can be awarded, the knowledge acquired in the Bachelor studies is being expanded in a subject didactic manner.
Vocational Education
In the module Vocational Education, for which 27 CP can be awarded, vocational educational and educational scientific skills are acquired, which are required for working in vocational training institutions and systems. In these modules, amongst other things, central terms such as occupation, qualification and skills are defined and issues such as the structures, forms and funding structure in vocational education and training are covered. Furthermore aspects of a comparison of educational systems in Europe and the world are dealt with as well as central theories of vocational education that are relevant for modern teaching at a vocational school.
General education subject
The following subjects may be selected as general education subjects for 60 CP in total in the General Education Subject module:

- Mathematics
- Physics
- Economy/politics
