Welcome to the Department for Sustainable Energy Transition (NEW)

The focus of the teaching and research work lies on the transformation from fossil energy systems to 100% renewable energy systems in order to limit the increase of the global average temperature to a maximum of 1.5°C without exceeding other planetary boundaries.

The research work is divided into  different research foci. The FossilExit working group is headed by Prof. Dr. Oei., who is supported by Dr. Isabell Braunger and Dr. Marina Blohm. The research focus on energy sufficiency is headed by Prof. Dr. Wiese. Clara Büttner and Katharina Esterl are available as contact persons for the research focus on cross-sector electricity grid modelling.

Impressions from research: Lessons from Lützerath: Coal phase-out and renewables instead of lobby deals

The master’s program "Energy and Environmental Management - Industrial Countries" imparts the necessary knowledge and skills to shape the energy system of the future. In order to cope with the greatest challenge of the 21st century, man-made climate change, it is essential to convert the global energy supply over the next few decades to 100% renewable energy sources and to make the provision and use of energy much more efficient.
