Learn Frisian outside of your degree!
Did you know that you can also learn Frisian with us outside of your degree? You don't have to be a German major (or degree-seeking at all!) to take courses in Frisian.
Each semester we offer a selection of introductory courses to the various Frisian dialects (these may vary from semester to semester).
Events for Fall Semester 2024/25
- Fering I (the Frisian spoken on the island of Föhr) Sample: every Thursday, 12:00 a.m. - 02:00 p.m. in OSL 236
- Sölring I (the Frisian spoken on the island of Sylt) Sample: every Thursday, 08:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. in RIG 401
- Mooringer Frasch I (a Mainland Frisian dialect): every Monday, 12:00 a.m. - 02:00 p.m. in TRO 107
In these introductory courses you will not only learn about the North Frisian language, but you'll become familiar with North Frisian life and culture. These courses are particularly exciting because you'll get insight into a language and culture that existed not long ago and not far from Flensburg--or does it still exist? You'll have to take the course to find out.
By the way: You do NOT need any previous knowledge of North Frisian to take these courses!
