The EUF Centre for Irish Studies will be celebrating its opening with an Inauguration Event on Nov 8, from 13:15 onwards.
We are thrilled to celebrate the opening of our doors on November 8!
We’ve assembled a programme that combines academic and cultural aspects of Irish Studies! Hope to see you there and please see below for further details!
In the afternoon (13:15-17:30, TAL), you can look forward to:
- Welcome Speeches from H. E. Dr. Nicholas O’Brien (Irish Ambassador to Germany), Ulrich Glassmann (VP-International, EUF), Monika Eigmüller (ICES, EUF), and Michelle Witen (Director of the Centre for Irish Studies, EUF)
- A Roundtable on Irish Studies in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH) featuring Katharina Rennhak (Wuppertal, EFACIS), Dieter Fuchs (Vienna), and Anne-Claire Michoux (Zurich)
- Short Lectures spotlighting aspects of Irish Studies:
- Raymond Hickey (Essen): "Languages in Ireland: Our Tools for Communication"
Tony Connelly (RTÉ): "Best of Both Worlds? Northern Ireland and the Post-Brexit Settlement"- Christina Morin (Limerick): "Irish Gothic and the Curse of Genre Fiction"
Throughout the day, it will also be possible to view the Exhibition "Into Europe: Ireland & the EU," on loan to us by the Government of Ireland, in the main foyer of the Helsinki Building.
Then, from 18:30 onwards, come join us on the ground floor of HEL (the Helsinki Building) for Irish Music from Drumchapel Mist, Food, and Drinks!
