Academic Profile

Chiara Terranova is a researcher at the Professorship for Empirical Research on Europe (Empirische Europaforschung) at Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF). She has recently graduated from the College of Europe, in Bruges (Belgium), where she pursued the Advanced Master in European Political and Governance Studies. Her dissertation, which focused on the role of the European Commission in the long-term budgetary politics of the European Union (EU), was awarded the "Sir Julian Priestley Memorial Prize" 2019 for the best thesis on European policies and strategies. Previously, she obtained her MA in International Relations at the University of Turin (Italy), writing a dissertation on the role of the Court of Justice of the European Union in balancing economic and social interests. She pursued her BA in Business Administration at the University of Cassino (Italy), writing a dissertation about the concept of moral hazard in the European Economic and Monetary Union.

Her main research interests include EU governance and institutions, EU political economy and EU law. She has recently focused on the EU budget, in particular on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), and the role of the European Commission in this policy field.
