To apply to the ProRef program, you must already be in Germany and be able to prove that you have a refugee background. Otherwise your application will not be processed. This also applies to the online course.

On this page you will find information about the application process and criteria. To apply for the program, you must first complete the online application form and upload the required documents. Applications will only be accepted, if submitted via our online application portal along with all required documents.

Courses 2024

GERMAN CLASSES - ON CAMPUS & ONLINE

Our new course round starts December 1st, 2024

German B2 full-time (20 hours/week)

  •   Format:    Presence & online & self-study tasks
  •   Duration:  December 1, 2024 to June 29, 2025
  •   Aim:          B2 certificate

German B2 part-time (12 hours/week)

  •   Format:    Presence & self-study tasks
  •   Duration:  December 1, 2024 to November 30, 2025
  •   Aim:          B2 certificate

The German courses have already started. There are no more places available on the part-time German C1 course.

Program content: Language lessons, acquisition of key skills (e.g. intercultural competence, methodological competence), tutorial "Job application training"

English course

Program 2025

Our next course round starts on January 13th, 2025!

English B2/C1 course:       12 hours per week/ part-time

Aim:                                      IELTS Certificate B2/C1 level

Program content: Language lessons, acquisition of key competences (e.g. cultural competence, method competence, etc.), job application training, language exam preparation

Teaching format: Courses consist of weekly face-to-face online lessons

Admission requirements for all courses:

Language level B1 and university entrance qualification and proof of refugee background and desire to study or continue studying.

Who can apply?

You can apply for a place in the ProRef program if you:

  •     have a refugee background and
  •     have a university entrance qualification and
  •     have language skills in German or English of at least B1 level and
  •     would like to take up a course of study or continue studying after the end of the program.

We strive for a balanced gender ratio in all language courses. Europa-Universität Flensburg particularly welcomes applications from qualified women.

To check whether your degree is recognized in Germany and whether you meet the admission requirements, you can use the DAAD admission database.

As proof, you will need one of these following residence statuses:

  •     Proof of arrival
  •     Residence permit
  •     Toleration
  •     Residence permit
  •     Degree certificate entitling the holder to study at a university in Germany (original or certified copy with translation into German or English by a sworn translator).
  •     If available: Study certificates (BA or MA transcript or certificate in original or certified copy with translation in German or English by a sworn translator).

To check whether your school-leaving certificate is recognized in Germany and whether you meet the admission requirements, you can use the admission database of the DAAD.

Proven language skills at B1 level in German or English.

Applications are only possible via our online application form:

A complete application requires the following documents:

  •     Proof of refugee status (copy of ID)
  •     B1 language certificate
  •     School and study certificates (certificate/diploma and transcript of records)

We would like to explicitly point out that applications are only accepted via the online application portal. Please do not send application documents by e-mail or post.

After successful submission you will receive a confirmation email. Please note this does not mean you have been accepted to the program.

The following courses are offered:

  • German B2 (part-time 12 lessons per week) - presence, online and self study
  • German B2 (full-time 20 hours/week) - presence, online and self study
  • German C1 (part-time/12 lessons per week) - presence, online and self study
  • English B2/C1 (part-time/12 lessons per week) - online

Course round times depend on part-time or full-time classes. Details on the lenght can be found here.

The ProRef program is funded by the Ministry of General and Vocational Education, Science, Research and Culture of the State of Schleswig-Holstein.
