Dear colleagues,
we would like to make some information available to you which should be very useful for your travel to and stay at Flensburg in late June. In case that you feel the need for additional information, do not hesitate to contact us.
Arrival by…
… aircraft (and railway): The nearest airport on german territory is Hamburg Fuhlsbüttel (international airport call sign HAM) at 175km distance from Flensburg. You will have to take a train to Hamburg Central Station ("Hauptbahnhof") and from there a connecting service to Flensburg.
… car: Flensburg is located at route A7 (traffic signs with white markings on blue ground). Take exit number 3 ("Flensburg", not to be confused with exit number 2 "Flensburg/Harrislee") and turn onto route B200 (traffic signs with black markings on yellow ground) into direction of Flensburg. Switch then to route B199 into direction "FL-Süd/FL-Ost" and turn left at the fourth exit to the main campus. The venue’s address is "Auf dem Campus 1a, 24943 Flensburg".
… train: Flensburg station can be reached from the south via Hamburg Central. A regional train will leave hourly from there. If you want to come via the Jutland route, which would also be advisable for our participants from Sweden, a train service from Malmo via Copenhagen and Fredericia is running every other hour. In order to go directly to the venue from Flensburg station take bus line 5 (heading to "Ring A/Campus Uni"). If you want to reach the venue starting from the city center, please use bus lines 5 or 8. Flensburg Campus has three different bus stops, please exit at the third of those, "Campus Uni". The fare for a single ticket is 2,30€.
The hotels we recommend are within walking distance from the Flensburg central bus station (ZOB). If you have booked at another place and feel unsure about how to get to the venue please feel free to contact us.
Arriving on Flensburg University Campus
When you arrive on the Campus by bus as advised above, you can be dropped off at two different stops both called "Campus Uni". These are marked in the edited version of our Campus map near the top edge of the map, right next to the main building ("Universität Hauptgebäude"). The conference site can be found in the extension building ("Universität Erweiterungsbau"), which is right next to the main building. It's just a short walk!
Climate:
We cannot guarantee sunshine but a truly mild climate indeed. Temperatures during June/July in Flensburg are around 16°C, so you need not pack for an English summer.
Registration:
Registration in the conference office will be open from 09.00hrs onwards. There will be signs outside the university building guiding you to the registration room.
Internet:
The conference participants will receive login information for the university’s WiFi network ("eduroam" is available).
After the sessions...
Flensburg is a good town to be explored on foot. The old city centre has a lot to offer in terms of shopping or a nice evening at a bar or restaurant. We have compiled and updated a small guide along with a map of our city centre.
