CCS-Strategie: Studie zur Ökonomischen Bewertung von CO2-Abscheidung, Transport und Speicherung

The study covers the following topics :

• Analysis of current and future CCS technologies, including their maturity and potential for CO₂ reduction: Which CO2 capture technologies are available when and where?
• Analysing the potential fields of application for CCS in Germany. What are actually unavoidable residual emissions and for which sectors could CCS be needed and when?
• Assessment of the economic costs and benefits of CCS in Germany, including investment, operating and maintenance costs for the entire CCS chain (supplemented by a rough estimate of possible accident costs, depending on the data available).
• Estimation of the expected cost reduction and potential scalability of CCS (comparison of similarities and differences to cost reductions of other energy technologies).
• Comparison of CCS costs and benefits with other CO₂ reduction measures and technologies for individual areas of application in Germany, including opportunity costs and delayed transformation as well as climate policy implications (extending the lifespan of fossil fuels. CCS as a Trojan horse for the fossil fuel industry and a fossil fuel ‘business as usual’)
• Critical analysis of the economic and climate policy risks and uncertainties in connection with the implementation of CCS (including regulatory framework conditions and their influence on the economic feasibility of CCS).
