Europa-Universität Flensburg offers doctoral and early-career researchers structured qualification pathways to promote their academic development
Doctorate holders may choose to continue working towards a professorship, or they may opt for a non-academic career. To encourage both options, on November 25, 2015 the EUF Senate adopted the Orientierungsrahmen zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses vor und nach der Promotion und akademischer Karrierewege neben der Professur ("Guiding Framework for Advancing Doctoral and Early-Career Researchers and for Supporting Alternative non-Professorial Academic Career Paths").
At Europa-Universität Flensburg, the junior professorship is the main route to achieving a full professorship. Of course, habilitation is still an option. View habilitation regulations (German only).
EUF offersresearchers in qualification phases targeted funding and other forms of support to help them advance through each phase of their careers. Assistance is geared towards a specific goal for each phase, namely: to build up expertise in a specific field (doctoral candidates), to sharpen their research and teaching profiles (postdocs, habilitating researchers), to deepen and expand their scholarly focus (tenure-track and non-tenure track junior professors), and to develop a renowned, internationally visible area of research competence (full professors).
In principle, funding and support opportunities that advance this broader structure take priority over individual forms of assistance. See Overview of Funding Programs.
FQ-WiN Program
The FQ-WiN program (Program for the Promotion and Qualification of Doctoral and Early-Career Researchers) is Europa-Universität Flensburg’s central information source for funding and support program opportunities available to researchers in qualification phases on campus. FQ-WiN bundles together all funded positions, scholarships, services, and other forms of support offered by the EUF Department of Research, the university committees for research, scholarships, and doctoral study, the ZeBUSS and ICES research centers, the Center for Continuing Academic Education, and the university’s Equal Opportunity Unit, among others.
