Core research areas at Europa-Universität Flensburg
The research orientation of Europa-Universität Flensburg reflects its historical roots as well as its strategic development in three thematic areas.
Historically, the university has had strong roots in the educational sciences and teacher training. This focus expanded to include European studies in 2014, when the university adopted the Europa- designation to signal its commitment to European topics. EUF's flagship research centers — the Center for Research on Education, Instructions School and Socialization (ZeBUSS) and the Interdisciplinary Centre for European Studies (ICES) — promote cross-institutional research and exchange in these two areas.
Transformation / Sustainability Studies, a third core research area, has emerged from the university’s core mission and values. The Jackstädt Center and the Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (ZNES) were founded together with Flensburg University of Applied Sciences. The Norbert Elias Center for Transformation Design & Research (NEC) was also established. With the founding of the Center for Research on Sustainability and Transformation (CREST), a profile-setting research center has now also been established here.
