Career Switch Into Special Education Teaching
Apply now to make the career switch into special education teaching: This is exactly what bachelor's degree holders from other educational science or pedagogical programs with relevant professional experience can do, as part of a three-year training program offered by the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The dual master's program in special education is a cooperative project of Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF) and the Institute for Quality Development in Schools Schleswig-Holstein (IQSH). Applications are being accepted until the end of May by the Ministry for Education, Science and Culture, which launched the program.
The dual study program is aimed at people who hold a bachelor's degree in a closely related subject, such as early childhood education, therapeutic education, social education, health education, social work, psychology or other teaching-related degree subjects, who also have relevant educational work experience. This professional experience must comprise at least one year of full-time work after the interested person has obtained her/his first degree (e.g. the bachelor's degree). The degree program enables professionals trained in educational science to make a lateral entry into or further their education in special education teaching.
The program comprises two sub-programs: the compulsory specialization in special education for the learning aspects of emotional and social development, and the elective subject German or primary-school mathematics.
The application period for Fall Semester 2022 is currently open, and runs until the end of May, 2022. Accepted students will receive a basic salary during the entire training period, and conclude an employment contract with the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (MBWK) of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, which is in charge of the program.
