Zusatzinformationen
Jule Matzen is a recent graduate from Europa-Universität Flensburg, holding a M.Ed. (Gymnasiallehramt), and specializing in English and Art, earned in July 2022. Her academic journey took an exciting turn during her master's thesis, where she examined themes of sexuality, gender, and defeaturing in selected works by Shakespeare. Building upon this, she is working on her PhD (as of Oct 2023), which is being funded by the Promotionsstipendium of the Landes Schleswig-Holstein.
Under Prof. Dr. Michelle Witen's guidance, her PhD project titled "Visual Art in Shakespeare and Joyce: The Interplay of Literature and Contemporaneous Art" explores how Shakespeare integrated visual arts into his writings, enhancing thematic, aesthetic, and conceptual dimensions. Additionally, she juxtaposes James Joyce's literary approach with Shakespeare's, showing how Joyce's works echo and inflect the Shakespearean tradition through visual arts.
