Applying to the M.A. Program in International Management Studies (BWL)

The following menu items provide comprehensive information about applying for admission to the Master of Arts program in International Management – BWL at Europa-Universität Flensburg.

Please note: Applicants to this program must have successfully completed or be close to completing their bachelor's degree studies. High school graduates cannot directly apply for admission to the master's program.

For internal applicants: If you are already enrolled in a bachelor's program at Europa-Universität Flensburg, we recommend that you re-register in a timely manner for the semester in which you will begin the master's program. Doing so has the following advantages:

  • It simplifies and expedites the re-enrollment process
  • In the event that the BA is not successfully completed as planned, you will already have enrolled for the BA in the following semester

Selection Process

Selection Process

THe degree program is unrestricted.

Provisional admission

If you have not yet provided proof of a qualifying college degree by the application deadline, you will receive provisional admission. For admission to a degree program, you must provide proof of the successful completion of e.g. a BA degree by a specified date (November 1). This also applies to the proof of any required language certificates.

Acceptance of study places

Immediately after the application deadline (around July 20), the main selection process will take place and all considered applicants will receive an admissions notification  by email. This email will explain the next steps you’ll need to take and provide you with information about to register for the immersive language courses.

Within a few days, you must then confirm your acceptance of the offered study place by sending an email to the EUF admissions office.

After the acceptance period has expired, we will determine whether all of the available study places have been allocated. If this is not the case, the first succession procedure (Nachrückverfahren) will begin immediately. The ensuing process will be identical to that of the main selection process.

Application Process

Application Process

The application to the Europa-Universität Flensburg takes place in two steps:

1. the online application process and
2. uploading of all required application documents.

A parallel application/registration with the Foundation for University Admissions (DoSV) is not necessary.

In the online application, you must enter all the required data for your chosen degree program. At the end of the online application, you must upload all required documents. You will find a list of the documents required for the application in the application information sheet for your degree program. The documents must be uploaded to the portal no later than the last day of the application period (application deadline).

Once your documents have been received, they will be reviewed. You must then verify in the application portal whether the application is complete or whether any documents are missing. You will receive a notification in the portal and, if you have activated the function, an e-mail informing you that your application status has changed. Any missing documents listed in the application portal must be submitted no later than the application deadline. It is NOT possible to submit documents after the application deadline.

If you have made a mistake in the online application, you can make changes until you have submitted the application form. If you make a mistake after submitting your application, e.g. an incorrect subject combination, you must submit a new application. You will then receive a new application number.

It is important to note that you may only apply for one admission-restricted degree program (or one admission-restricted combination of subjects). If several applications are received for degree programs with restricted admission, only the last application processed by the Admissions Office will be considered in the selection process.
Please note: Online applications submitted before the official application start date cannot be considered. This also applies if application documents are received after the application deadline. Applicants are solely responsible for the timely submission of their application documents.

How the online application works

You may only apply for one restricted-admission degree program (or a combined restricted-admission degree program). If you apply for several applications for admission-restricted programs, during the selection process the university will only consider your most recent application processed by the admissions office.

Please note: Online applications submitted before the official application start date cannot be considered. This also applies for applications received after the application deadline. You are entirely responsible for ensuring that the university receives your application by the deadline.

Go to the online application portal

Please note:

To apply for admission to the master’s program, you need not have fully and successfully completed your bachelor’s degree studies or submit proof that you hold the requisite B.A. degree by the application deadline.

You may also apply you expect to have successfully completed your studies and obtained the B.A. in the semester when you submit your application. In this case, only your required application documents and the legal nature (contents) of the admission notice will differ from those of other applicants.

If you can already prove with the application documents that you have successfully completed your B.A. studies and have met all formal admission requirements, you will receive a legally binding admission notice.

If you are not yet able to provide proof that you hold the B.A. degree, for example because you have not yet received grades for all of your exams, but you have met all formal admission requirements, you will be conditionally admitted into the program and will receive a provisional admission notice.

If you are already enrolled in a master’s program in international management and would like to complete your master’s studies at Europa-Universität Flensburg, you can apply for admission to an advanced semester.

International Applicants

International Applicants

All applicants to a degree program at EUF must complete the online application procedure.

The following foreign applicants can apply under the same terms as German applicants:

  • All foreign applicants or stateless persons who have acquired a German higher education entrance qualification, or who have already completed a degree program in Germany that entitles them to take up the desired degree program.
  • Citizens of a member state of the European Union (EU)
  • Citizens of signatory states to the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA) that are not members of the EU (i.e. Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway)
  • Foreign applicants with family members who are citizens of a member state of the EU or of a state party to the EEA Agreement

All international applicants who do not have a German-language university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur) require proof of sufficient German language skills. You can find an overview of recognized certificates under "Additional qualifications."

If you cannot provide proof that you hold such a German-language university entrance qualification, you will need to provide evidence that you possess sufficient German language skills.

Admissible language certificates

In accordance with the study qualification statutes of Europa-Universität Flensburg, applicants must provide proof of language proficiency at the C1 level. The program accepts the following language certificates:

  1. DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang) with the overall result DSH-2, with a minimum passing grade of 2 for all examination sections.

You will then receive an assessment of the certificate, which you should then submit along with your application.

If verification is not possible, your documents must be sent by the admissions office to the central office in Bonn. The review process there can take several months. Nevertheless, in order to participate in the selection procedure, the university must receive the result of the Bonn review by the application deadline at the latest.

Provisional Admission

Provisional Admission

Once you have been provisionally admitted into the program, you will need to complete two additional steps:

  1. You must submit the enrollment documents indicated in the admission notice to the registrar's office by the specified deadline. Only after the office has received these documents can you confirm your acceptance of the university's offer of admission and accept the study place.
  2. You must submit proof of having successful completed your B.A. studies (certificate and/or diploma, or official informal confirmation from the responsible examination office) to the admissions office of Europa-Universität Flensburg by November 11 at the latest.

Please note: If you submit the required documents late or incompletely, or if you cannot prove that you have successfully completed your B.A. studies by November 1, your admission will expire irrevocably at the end of November 1. You should bear this in mind, especially when scheduling your final exams, including the B.A. thesis and the subsequent grading period.

Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements

To apply for the Master International Management Study - BWL, you must meet both of the following requirements:

  1. You hold a bachelor's degree in "International Management - BWL" from Europa-Universität Flensburg, or you successfully completed an equivalent university degree program with a minimum of 180 credit points (CP).
  2. You possess German and English language skills that meet the criteria set forth in the statute regarding proof of foreign language proficiency or from a practical work experience in accordance with the study qualification statutes of Europa-Universität Flensburg (see below).

Equivalence in accordance with Item 1 above is generally deemed to exist if the following can be demonstrated:

  • A bachelor's degree from an economics degree program accredited by the German Accreditation Council with an international orientation
  • At least 30 CP in BWL/VWL
  • At least 15 CP in statistics/social science methods

If you only partially meet these criteria, you may be admitted under certain conditions. You will need to make up courses from the bachelor's degree program in International Management at EUF. This may prolong your studies. Please refer to the application instructions under the heading "Required application documents."

The equivalence agreements approved by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Rectors' Conference are conclusive for determining the equivalence of foreign degree programs. In the absence of such an agreement, the admissions committee shall decide on equivalency.

The decision on participation in the selection procedure is made by the admissions committee after reviewing the received application documents.

Questions regarding admission requirements and language qualifications should only be directed to the study program advisor.

Required language skills - English

The M.A. program in International Management Study - BWL requires proof that you have a good command of English.

The certificate presented as proof of language proficiency must not be older than two years from the start of the semester for which enrollment is requested.

Admission Restrictions

Admission Restrictions

This degree program has restricted admissions.

Currently 90 study places are available. The following applicant selection terms and criteria apply:

  • The B.A. grade will be used for selection based on merit.
  • If you do not yet have a B.A. degree, you will enter the selection procedure with the provisional grade. This provision grade will be based on your transcript or a certificate from the examination office.
  • If your provisional grade for the B.A. transcript changes after the selection procedure has been carried out, this will have neither a positive nor a negative effect on the admission decision. You may submit only one current grade record for consideration in the selection process.
  • If you cannot provide proof of a current grade point average, your application will be placed on the ranking list just below last application for which a verified grade exists.

Second Degree

Second Degree

If you have already successfully completed a bachelor's, diploma, master's, or state examination degree program at a German university at the time of application and your selected program has admission restrictions, you are required to apply for admission as a "second degree applicant."

In an admissions-restricted degree program, the selection of second degree applicants is not based on final school exam grade and waiting period, but rather on

  • Your overall grade achieved in the completed degree program
  • Your justification for opting to do a second degree

Based on these two pieces of information the university determines a score, which it then uses to determine whether you can be admitted into your chosen program if the number of applicants exceeds the available study places.

A maximum of 3% of the available places in your chosen degree program will be allocated to second- degree applicants.

EXCEPTION: Graduates of a bachelor's program who are applying to a master's program for the first time are not viewed as second-degree applicants

The Application Procedure

As a second-degree applicant, you go through the online application procedure like everyone else, in the usual way. In one of the online screens, you must answer "yes" to the question of whether your chosen degree program is for a second degree (Zweitstudium). You will then be referred to the "Antrag auf Zulassung zum Zweitstudium" (Application for Admission as a Second-Degree Applicant), which you must submit together with your application documents. You should only use the application form if you are applying for admission to a degree program with restricted admissions.
