New Interdisciplinary Perspectives on ‘Border’: Current European processes
All students and staff members of the Europa-Universität Flensburg are cordially invited to participate in the lectures and workshops on ‘New Interdisciplinary Perspectives on ‘Border’!
The concept of ‚border‘ and related scenarios of transgression, dissolution, etc. require, especially when used to analyse current European societal processes, a combination of perspectives from the social sciences and humanities, from political science, media studies and philosophy. Only in this way can the processes of self-design and self-reflection of European societies be comprehensively re-mapped and analysed - especially with regard to the leveling of power asymmetries and the elimination of exclusions.
In the sense of a contrasting and narrowing down of the aesthetic and pertinent logic of the border negotiation, the conference will focus in particular on the following interdisciplinary topics: socio-political and cultural aspects of visualisation; governmentality; border figures; border constitution and (political) space; Internalisation and surveillance.
This and another laboratory workshop in spring term 2018 will be organised by Prof. Dr. Hedwig Wagner (EUF, European Media Studies) and Prof. Dr. Iulia Patrut (EUF, Modern German Literature in a European Context) organized in cooperation with the University of Luxembourg’s centers: ‚UNI-GR Center for Border Studies‘ and the ‚Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History‘, C2DH. The workshops serves amongs others the preparation of an international conference in 2019 on this same topic
The concept for these two workshops and the 2019 International Conference will be supported under the 'ICES Calls for Conference Proposals' launched in January 2018.
