Europe and its crisis as contested objects of economic interpretation in the field of German-speaking economists
Dr. Christian Schmidt-Wellenburg, Universität Potsdam
On Monday, June 4th, Christian Schmidt Wellenburg gave a lecture on "Europe and its crisis as contested objects of economic interpretation in the field of German-speaking economists".
Christian Schmidt-Wellenburg rer. pol., works at the Sociology department of the University of Potsdam.
In his lecture, he explained the controversies between economists, in German as well as in other national academic contexts, which have emerged since the economic crisis of Europe in 2008. The discursive discussions ignite in the definition of what is actually at stake, who has to be blamed for the problems, what would be adequate solutions to problems and, accordingly, who should act in what way. The contribution was based on the hypothesis that the differences and similarities in the politico-economic positions of the economists can best be explained by their position in the economic discipline.
