Erasmus+ aims to promote exchange and academic cooperation among all countries worldwide. Under Key Action 1 (Individual Mobility), there is a distinction between program countries and partner countries, as well as between the KA131 program (mobility within program countries + globally) and the KA171 program (mobility to specific Erasmus+ partner countries).

Erasmus+ participants must carry out their international stay in a program or partner country that is neither the country of their home university nor their country of residence during their time at university.

Program countries are EU member states:
Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Czech Republic, Hungary, Cyprus.

Other program countries include:
North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey.

Unit costs listed below for travel and the stay abroad represent maximum funding rates.  The exact funding amount will be determined after the student has returned, based on the travel expense statement and in accordance with the BRKG (German federal travel expense law).

Travel allowance

A one-time payment of 1500 € will be issued.

• Erasmus+ scholarships are only available for stays at partner universities with which Europa-Universität Flensburg has an inter-institutional agreement (Erasmus+ cooperation contract).

• There are no tuition fees at Erasmus+ partner universities.

• The study abroad period can be for one or two semesters; the minimum duration is two months. It is possible to receive funding several times - up to 12 months in each study period. Students who have already received Erasmus+ funding from Europa-Universität Flensburg for studying abroad will be given lower priority for financial support.

• Students may submit an informal request for an extension of their stay to the International Center (by e-mail) up to 30 days before the end of their study abroad period.
• The student and two universities sign a Learning Agreement to facilitate the recognition (transfer of credits) of courses taken at the partner university. This agreement lists the courses taken and credit points (ECTS points). Upon your return to EUF, you will receive a transcript of records certifying the courses taken and credits earned.

In addition to securing your study place, waiving tuition fees, and receiving support from the universities, the Erasmus+ scholarship also provides financial support for your time abroad. The Erasmus+ grant consists of several components:

• Applications for an Erasmus+ scholarship for stays outside Europe are submitted annually via the online application portal. All students who have accepted a place at an Erasmus+ partner university (see list)will be notified of the application period by the International Center by email.
• Scholarship holders are selected within 3 weeks of the application deadline. The following criteria are taken into account during the selection process:
  • The student's qualifications and academic performance to date
  • The relevance of the planned stay abroad to the student's current studies
  • Language skills necessary to complete the study abroad program
  • Willingness to serve as an ambassador for study abroad

In addition to securing your study place, waiving tuition fees, and receiving support from the universities, the Erasmus+ scholarship also provides financial support for your time abroad. The Erasmus+ scholarship consists of several components:

• Erasmus+ scholarships can fund both mandatory and voluntary internships.
• The minimum duration is 60 days. Erasmus+ funding can be granted multiple times, with up to 12 months of funding available for each level of study. However, first-time applicants have priority when scholarships are awarded.
• Priority is given to mandatory internships and unpaid internships.
• Internships at EU institutions and other EU bodies, including specialized agencies and organizations that manage EU programs, are not eligible for funding.
• If you are unable to complete a full-time internship due to a disability, chronic illness, or childcare responsibilities, your Erasmus+ internship may be completed part-time with an appropriate justification.

• Advantages of the Erasmus+ Program:

  • Recognition of the work completed abroad
  • Support throughout the internship from a contact person at both Europa-Universität Flensburg and the internship organization
  • Assistance in preparing for your stay abroad, including the option to participate in a preparatory Erasmus+ intensive language course in lesser-spoken languages
  • An EU internship contract between the university, the internship organization, and the student
• You can apply for an extension of your stay up to 30 days before the end of your internship (via email) to the International Office.

The Erasmus+ grant for your stay abroad (scholarship) is made up of several components.

As soon as you have been accepted for an internship, you can apply for the Erasmus+ scholarship. Your application must be received via the online application portal at least two months before the internship starts. If the internships will be done Fall Semester 24/25 as part of the practical semester (MA Ed), the application must be received at least one month before the start of the internship. The earlier you submit your application, the better your chances of receiving a scholarship.

We always review applications at the start of each month. We then inform the applicants about their eligibility for Erasmus+ funding.

Required application documents:

• Learning Agreement for Traineeships (Word template)
• Transcript of records (1^st semester master's students: Please upload your bachelor's degree certificate including grade, instead of the transcript of records)
• Certificate(s) of university enrollment for the entire internship period(if you have them already; graduate internships: current certificate of university enrollment)
• CV
• Declaration of honor to apply for top-ups or Green Travel (if applicable; document cannot be submitted subsequently)

Accident and liability insurance is mandatory for Erasmus+ internships; the insurance can also be concluded after the scholarship has been awarded. If your internship institution provides you with liability or accident insurance, you can also upload the relevant proof to the application portal.

Application portal for Erasmus+ Internships

• The mobility consists of a short-term stay abroad (in-person phase, 5-30 days) and at least one online phase before, during, and/or after the stay. No Erasmus+ grant is provided for the online phase(s).
• The in-person phase takes place at an Erasmus+ partner university of EUF in one of the following countries: EU member states, Norway, or Turkey.
• No tuition fees are charged by the partner university for participation.
• By participating in a BIP or other short-term stay, you will earn at least 3 ECTS credits. Ideally, these credits will be recognized as part of your studies at EUF. If recognition is not possible, you may still participate voluntarily. Recognition must be discussed with EUF in advance and, after receiving the Erasmus+ grant, formalized in an individual Learning Agreement. Upon your return, a Transcript of Records will be issued, certifying the completed course and the awarded ECTS credits. You can use these documents to apply for recognition.
• Repeated funding through Erasmus+ is possible, with up to 12 months of funding available for each level of study; however, first-time applicants are given priority when scholarships are awarded.
• Blended Intensive Programs can also take place at EUF. In this case, EUF participants do not receive Erasmus+ funding, as they are not traveling abroad.

Your application must be received via the online application portal at least two months before the first part of the BIP/short-term mobility. We always review applications at the start of each month. We then inform the applicants about their eligibility for Erasmus+ funding. For Blended Intensive Programmes organized by EUF lecturers, later deadlines may apply.

Required application documents:

• Transcript of records (not required for BIPs organized by EUF lecturers; 1^st semester master's students: Please upload your bachelor's degree certificate including grade, instead of the transcript of records)
• CV (not required for BIPs organized by EUF lecturers)
• Certificate(s) of university enrollment for the entire BIP period (if you have them already)
• Declaration of honor to apply for top-ups or Green Travel (if applicable)

The application must be submitted via the online application portal.

Erasmus+ application portal for BIPs/short-term mobilities

The duration of the stay is 5-30 days. The stay abroad can optionally be combined with an online component. No Erasmus+ grant is provided for any online phase.

No tuition fees may be charged during Erasmus+ stays at (partner) universities.

The mobility may be self-organized or, alternatively, it may take place within the framework of a Blended Intensive Program (BIP). Current calls for applications can be found in the News section, on the UniNow app (international feed), and in the Summer Schools in Europe database.

Erasmus+ funding to finance this type of stay abroad includes several components:

• The duration of the stay is 60 days to 12 months. The stay abroad can optionally be combined with an online component. No Erasmus+ grant is provided for any possible online phase.
• No tuition fees may be charged during Erasmus+ stays at (partner) universities.
• The funding conditions for self-organized research stays are identical to those for an Erasmus+ internship.
• If you wish to study for a semester at one of EUF's Erasmus+ partner universities, please contact us before submitting a funding application. The funding conditions are the same as for Erasmus+ study.

• As soon as your planned stay abroad has been confirmed by your EUF supervisor and the host institution, you can apply for Erasmus+ funding. The application must be submitted at least one month before the planned mobility. The earlier an application is submitted, the higher the chances of approval. Doctoral students who have already received Erasmus+ funding from Europa-Universität Flensburg will be given lower priority for financial support.
• Required application documents:
  • Certificate(s) of university enrollment for the entire stay abroad (if you have them already)
  • Learning Agreement "Student Mobility for Traineeships" (if you plan to take part in a Blended Intensive Programme, please contact the International Center first and then create an Online Learning Agreement)
  • Declaration of honor to apply for top-ups or Green Travel (if applicable)

Erasmus+ application portal for doctoral students

The program can support university personnel from all fields (including trainees) such as:

• Research centers

• Student counseling

Repeated funding through Erasmus+ is possible - but priority is given to first-time applicants.

Funding can be granted for stays abroad that last a minimum of 2 days (or 5 days for EUF partner countries) and a maximum of 2 months. The formats may include:

• Participation in Staff Weeks
• Hospitation (observership)/Job shadowing
• Participation in workshops and seminars
• Participation in language courses
• Participation in Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) at an Erasmus+ partner university

Conferences cannot be funded.

The funding consists of a per diem allowance and a travel allowance.

Due to budget constraints, a maximum of 5 days of stay can currently be funded.
EUF staff with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or children (if the child/children travel with them) can receive special funding under the Erasmus+ program. More information is available on the DAAD website. The university can also apply for reimbursement of actual additional costs (up to €15,000 per mobility). Feel free to contact us about this!

• Complete the staff mobility application through the online portal. If you wish to apply for the grant for environmentally friendly travel ("Green Travel") or travel days, you must upload a eine declaration of honor.
• The application must be submitted at least one month before the mobility. The earlier the application is submitted, the higher the chances of approval.

Application portal for Erasmus+ STA/STT Mobility

• Professors and other teaching staff with a contractual relationship with the university
• Unendowed lecturers 
• Freelance instructors (Lehrbeauftragte) with employment contracts
• Emeritus professors and retired lecturers
• Research associates (wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter*innen) 
• Company personnel from abraod

Repeated funding through Erasmus+ is possible - but priority is given to first-time applicants.

• Guest teaching stays at EUF Erasmus+ partner universities with at least 8 teaching hours per stay or per week (or part thereof).
• The duration of the stay is between 2 days (or 5 days for <a href="t3://page?uid=41109&amp;L=0#133454" class="inline-text-link">EUF partner countries</a>) and 2 months.
• If teaching and further education are combined, the teaching load is reduced to 4 hours/week.

• The funding consists of a per diem allowance and a travel allowance::

  Per diem allowance (depends on the country)	140 € – 190 € per day
  Travel expense allowance (depends on the distance/transport )	Up to 6 travel days + 1.735 euros

• Due to budget constraints, currently a maximum of 5 stay days can be funded.
• Teaching staff with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or children (if the child/children travel with them) can receive special funding under the Erasmus+ program. • Complete the STA mobility application via the online portal (incl. approval of your supervisor if applicable). The application must be submitted at least one month before the planned mobility. The earlier an application is submitted, the higher the chances of approval. If you use environmentally friendly means of transport, you can upload the declaration of honor signed by you to apply for top-ups.
• Once approved, you will receive a Mobility Agreement, Grant Agreement and Confirmation of Stay from the International Center.
• Before your departure, please submit the Mobility Agreement and Grant Agreement to the International Center.
• Also remember to submit an Application for Work-Related Travel as well as an A1 Certificate application!
• Before your return, have the "Confirmation of Stay" signed and then submit it to the International Center.
• After your stay abroad, you will receive a link to an online survey to be completed within 30 days of your return.
